Graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1990 receiving the highest honor in design, the ‘Habibur Rahman Award’.

Completed Masters in 1991 from the same university, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), with the highest grade receiving an award titled the ‘Ahsanur Rahman Gold Medal’.

Briefly taught full-time in BUET after graduation and later left to concentrate more on own practice named ‘Tanya Karim & N.R.Khan and Associates’ which went on to win national and international competitions, prestigious IAB award and whose work has been published widely both at home and abroad.

Was member of education of Institute of Architects Bangladesh and represented Bangladesh on several occasions. Was the only Bangladeshi juror on the ARCASIA Award.

Lectured widely in many universities around the world such as Yale University, Columbia University, Catholic University of Washington, National College of Arts, National University of Singapore, School of Architecture at La Defence, Graduate School of Design- Harvard, Center for Environmental Planning and Technology University- India, Rhode Island School of Design- USA, WCA- Pakistan, School of Architecture- Tokyo, BRAC university, North South University, University of Asia Pacific and Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology.
